What is the CB Scheme?
The IEC System for Conformity Assessment Schemes for Electrotechnical Equipment and Components (IECEE) Certification Body (CB) Scheme is the world’s first international system for mutual recognition of product safety test reports and certificates for electrical and electronic equipment, installations and components. The CB Scheme is based on internationally recognized product safety standards and relies on a worldwide network of CB Testing Laboratories (CBTL), which are responsible for testing products in accordance with applicable technical standards. The results of product testing are then submitted to National Certification Bodies (NCBs) in CB Scheme member countries, which can approve legal access to CBTL-tested products without additional testing.
The CB Scheme is an international program for the exchange and acceptance of product safety test results between participating laboratories and certification organizations around the world. The CB Scheme offers manufacturers a simplified way to obtain multiple national safety certifications for their products.
What are the advantages of CB certification Scheme？
There are currently more than 50 CB Scheme member countries around the world, including European Union (EU) member states, the U.S., China, India, Korea and Russia. Manufacturers using the CB Scheme can potentially gain access to any CB Scheme member country without the need for costly duplicate testing. In addition, applicants under the CB program are often given priority consideration by NCBs because no additional testing is required.
What products are covered by the CB scheme?
Batteries, cables and wires, capacitors as components, medical equipment, household appliances, installation accessories and connection devices, switches for appliances, automatic controls for household electrical appliances, IT and office equipment, lighting, low-voltage and high-voltage switchgear, portable tools, safety transformers and similar equipment.
How will national differences be handled?
Compliance with national differences can be assessed either by the NCB issuing the CB Test Certificate and CB Test Report or by the NCB to which the CB Test Certificate and CB Test Report are submitted for recognition and acceptance. However, costs, completion time, sampling requirements and project complexity can be further reduced if all relevant national differences are assessed by the NCB issuing the CB Test Certificate and CB Test Report.
How to apply for CB Scheme certification?
A manufacturer may apply to each NCB for either a CB test certificate or certification based on an existing CB test certificate. The NCB will provide information on the applicable fees, samples, documents and certification procedures in the NCB’s country.
